Extract audio from CD fails in Win 7

$

0

I recently purchased a new Dell Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium.

I purchased Adobe Audition 3.0 and upgraded to 3.01.

Extract audio from CD does work at all -- it does not even open a window to choose a track.

If I try to use the open command, I see the tracks but it says file type .cda is not supported.

(All of the above work perfectly with my old XP computer.)

I know my new hardware is working well because I can extract a CD track to a .wav file using
Windows Media Player.  I can then opoen the .wav file in Audition and edit it.

What kind of dirty tricks is Microsoft Win 7 plalying on me?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Are there any patches to Audition or the OS to fix the problem?

Dithering Master Confusion

Hey guys, my name is Connor and I'm just finishing up recording an album with my band at our home studio. I've used Audition 3 for all the recording and used it's built-in plug-ins for mixing, however, I want to export my final stereo mixes and do the mastering in a separate session with iZotope Ozone.

My problem is that I don't know how to export my mixdowns as 32 bit files (because that's what I'm supposed to use for mastering I believe, correct me if I'm wrong) out of audition without dither. The box is permanently grayed out and it looks like Audition is forcing me to dither my mixdowns when I try to export them as the default file type. I want to do the dithering through iZotope at the end of mastering instead of with Audition's built-in settings during mixdown.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated, I spent a while looking for advice on Google and on here, but I couldn't find anything about the grayed out box. I feel like I'm just not getting a fundamental concept about the whole bit-thing, but maybe I'm just missing an obvious setting or something.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it.

Maddening PK files

Audition experts? Why does audition save TWO files, the WAV file which I have used for 10 years but also a PK file which doesn't seem to have any use? If it is not useful, how can I stop it saving the PK file? I am still using version 1.5 and happy to do so as I am a professional voiceover person. ozdude6

ASIO drivers? wtf?

I'm having fits with Audition 3.0.  I just received a computer with a heavy duty media card (Soundtek) it's a HD device and there are a lot of game ports on this computer ( dirves E-I) and I'm sure it plays wonderful games, but when I go to record in Audition 3, it says that I need an ASIO driver.  As it is, I get track latency that I cannot reconcile with my present sound card.

I have used Audition in the past.  On my original edition (Audition or Cool Edit Pro 2000) I had a button that I checked that allowed me to compensate for the latency. I'm not new to the overall product.  I have used Audition 1.5 and 2.0 in the past as well.  Unfortunately that computer is no longer with us and I'm trying to get this new one ready to go.

Should I go out and buy a cheap Audioblater ASIO sound card and replace the High Def media card?  Seems counterproductive but I'm wiling to do it if it allows me to record without the latency.

midi recording, no sound

Dear All,

I have an EMU 0404 USB midi interface connected to my keyboard with MIDI cables. I set in Adobe audition under Preferences the MIDI devices, my EMU interface for both output and input. I also set in my keyboard the communication through midi. I also set when I open from the midi track the sequencer, I chose EMU device again.

When I play a midi file, it plays with my synth's sound. Also, when I open the piano roll, and press record, I can record. However when I play through the keyboard it doesn't record anything. Could anyone help what other settings I might should check?

Thank you very much!

Guitar Rig 4 in Audition 3.0

Hi,

it's been a while, but I'm having a weird problem with Audition 3.0 and Guitar Rig 4.  I just upgraded my recording computer (windows 7 home premium 64 bit, Intel i5 at 3.1, 8 GB of RAM), and Audition 3.0 is not recognizing Guitar Rig 4.  I put the .dll file in the VSTi folder, and I went to add a VST directory, but it doesn't come up -- it's like it just doesn't exist.  I tried putting the .dll in the plugins folder, but the same thing happened.  Recabinet 3 is being recognized by Audition 3.0, so I don't know what is going on with Guitar Rig 4.  Help, please!  Thanks in advance.

********EDIT*********

OK, now BFD2 is doing the same thing.  This is really ticking me off.  When I go to add a VST directory it isn't there, and when I go to enable effects the panel is blank.  Then when I finish I can see it quickly scanning the plugins and Guitar Rig 4 and BFD2 come up!!!!  What the heck is going on!!??  If it knows it's there why the heck is Audition telling me that it's not there to enable or disable?  These plugins worked just fine with Audition 3.0 on my previous computer.

Reinstall Audition 1.0?

Hard disk crash.  I am trying to reinstall Audition 1.0 to a WinXP Home on a Netbook.  I have a licensed copy of CE2K when I started that was followed up with an upgrade to Audition 1.0 when Adobe bought CE2K.  The problem is getting 1.0 installed.  I have tried installing CE2K but I am unable to input my CE2K serial number.  I got to install Audition 1.0 but despite having a valid serial number for Audition 1.0 the install fails because it cannot find an eligible upgrade product to finish the upgrade. Adobe help can not/will not Help stating Audition 1.0 is no longer supported.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get Audition 1.0 installed?

How do I make "right channel" audio the source for MONO recording rather than "left channel" audio?

I have lost left channel audio out of my mic preamp and have to move my mic input to the right channel.

Audition is not recognizing audio from the right side to make MONO recordings.

How do I make Audition use right side audio instead of left?

Hi Durin: Question about EZdrummer

I've been reading a bunch of these posts and you (Durin) seemed to be the authority around here as far as VSTi goes (haven't really looked at the other topics). I'm not sure how often you read these but, it can't hurt to try.

I've been posting on the Toontrack support forums trying to get EZdrummer to work with AA 3.0. Eventually, I got this reply from the Head of Support over at Toontrack:

"... Adobe Audition is not supported.

FYI what you described is exactly what I remember from my last attempt at getting it to work (some time ago admittedly). Since we don't have any contact with the developer (I guess our emails did not get routed to the right people since we never received any answers to our communications) then I'm afraid that the 'no support' status is here to stay."

It would be a shame to keep these two amazing programs from working in tandem. I know this is probably a pipe dream, but what are the chances of facilitating communication between Adobe and Toontrack about EZdrummer support? I'd find it hard to believe that I'm the only one who would really appreciate this. Thanks for any replies!

Adobe Audition Recording Voice Over Music

I need some help using adobe audition for a project. I have a trial version on adobe audition 3.0. I would like to know how to record my voice over music? I have to make a 2 minute infomercial for an artist and use various songs while talking about the band or artist. I need to have a continuous flow of music. I am confused on about every aspect. I have a microphone and when I record and try to playback, I cannot heard what I did. Where in the settings is the volume control for the microphone and volume? I would also like to have know what I need to do to lower the volume of music when I talk, I think this feature is known as enveloping. Also, when I put a CD with music in, what file do I have to go in to open it up and put it on the adobe screen. So basically, I would appreciate any help and a step by step process would be very helpful to me.

Thank You

Crackling sound during playback

I've just started recording music with Audition and I'm having a bit of an issue that I'm hoping is fairly common. I've searched a bit, but haven't found what I was looking for. When I play back multiple tracks in the multitrack view it gives me crackling and sometimes cuts out completely. I get the same if I mixdown all the tracks.

Equipment:

====================

Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Fi

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66Ghz

8GB Ram

Primary C: 544GB Free

Secondary F: 1.22TB Free

Adobe Audition 3.0

  • When I record using the Alesis mixer I have no issues.
  • When I play back each track individually in the Edit View area I have no issues
  • When I play back all tracks in the Multitrack view or try to mixdown the tracks I get crackling and sometimes the sound completely cuts out.
    • I get this through my on board Realtek sound card
    • I get this through my Creative Labs sound card
    • I get this through my speakers
    • I get this through headphones

I'm using the Creative ASIO driver, but I admit I'm new to recording via computer so maybe I'm missing something silly. My Audio Hardware Setup is shown below. I tried setting the ASIO Buffer Latency to 300ms to raise the sample rate, but that didn't help.

    Untitled-1.jpg

I tried raising the cache size thinking it didn't have enough.

    Untitled-2.jpg

I also raised the Peaks Cache.

    Untitled-3.jpg

I'm sure in my newbie-ness I'm missing something stupid and would really appreciate if anyone had any good advice on what I might do to troubleshoot this issue. It's making me nuts.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can I record audio off my PC?

    Hi,

I'm using Audition 2.0 and a PreSonus Firestudio Mobile.  Curious to know if I can record sound off the computer.  For example, if I was watching a funny youtube video and decided I wanted the audio, could I record it?  I have tried that once or twice and not picked up any sound, so I'm wondering if there's a setting I need to adjust in audition or if that's not possible to do.

    Help please: tips for pitch-correcting?

I'd appreciate help with achieving something that's outside my zone of previous knowledge.

I have a recording I'm trying to restore - instrumentals and vocals - but some of it is running off-pitch.  Where this happens, it's not just one instrument or a vocalist, it's the whole track, so correcting the pitch should be achievable - I just don't know how.  I'd appreciate some pointers, if anyone can help.

In some tracks, the pitch varies over time - I suspect the equipment it was mastered from, but of course I don't know that for sure - in some parts of a track the whole sound might be a wee bit sharp, but then a little later it'll be a bit flat.  Tips of reliable ways of analysing this, if they exist, rather than by trial and error would be much appreciated.

I have Audition 3.01.  If Audition is not the best tool to achieve this in, and someone can point me to a better solution, I'd be grateful for that info as well.

    Many thanks.

How to split one long file into multiple tracks?

I have a single-file recording of a vinyl record (containing multiple sequential tracks) that I want to export to multiple separate tracks. Is it possible to take thisfile of audio, add markers to it and export that file from multitrack view into separate tracks? I know its possible to do it using markers and to export a CD list and the burning to CD, but can you export to multiple gapless WAV files instead, with the markers as track/split points?

I am not burning to CD, just wanting to keep the tracks as files.

    Session File Location Change

I recently just got a new PC, my old PC had 1 hard drive, the C drive.  My new machine has 2 hard drives C & D drives.  The C drive is for system files teh D drive is for audio.  I have hundreds of Auditin sessions built on the old PC that refernce the audio that was saved on the C drive, now that audio is located on my new PC in the D drive.  So none of my sessions will open properly because the location of all my files changed. im looking for a fix for this, beyond renaming my hard drives any way to remedy this?

Please Please Please become compatible with EastWest Play!!!

AA3 has been an awesome DAW for the most part, but when it comes to an application like EastWest's Play VST software, it's not compatible...Please tell me if there's anything I can do to make these 2 programs work together! (I feel like a marriage counselor). I know Adobe doesn't like to breath a word about what's to come with future versions, but if there's any way you could tell me if this compatibility issue will happen, I'd be most greatful!!! I'd really LOVE to lose my Cubase software, which is where I have to go now to utilize PLAY, then transfer to Audition...a big pain!

    Hi there,

I have a new Sony Vaio laptop with windows 7 installed and after installing Audition 3, I get the following message when I want to start the program:

'Adobe Audition could not find a supported audio device'. So I can't if only start Audition.

After spending several hours on the net looking for a fix and tried some Vista SP1 patches, having failed miserably, here I am asking for your enlightened input.

My sound card is a ATI HDMI Audio from Realtek, CPU is intel Cor 2 Duo T6600 @ 2.20 ghz, 4 gig Mem and 500 gig HD.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.

All my drivers are up to date.

    Any useful & efficient advice?
