Adobe Audition Recording Voice Over Music

$

I need some help using adobe audition for a project. I have a trial version on adobe audition 3.0. I would like to know how to record my voice over music? I have to make a 2 minute infomercial for an artist and use various songs while talking about the band or artist. I need to have a continuous flow of music. I am confused on about every aspect. I have a microphone and when I record and try to playback, I cannot heard what I did. Where in the settings is the volume control for the microphone and volume? I would also like to have know what I need to do to lower the volume of music when I talk, I think this feature is known as enveloping. Also, when I put a CD with music in, what file do I have to go in to open it up and put it on the adobe screen. So basically, I would appreciate any help and a step by step process would be very helpful to me.

Thank You

Windows 7 audio device issue

Hi there,

I have a new Sony Vaio laptop with windows 7 installed and after installing Audition 3, I get the following message when I want to start the program:

'Adobe Audition could not find a supported audio device'. So I can't if only start Audition.

After spending several hours on the net looking for a fix and tried some Vista SP1 patches, having failed miserably, here I am asking for your enlightened input.

My sound card is a ATI HDMI Audio from Realtek, CPU is intel Cor 2 Duo T6600 @ 2.20 ghz, 4 gig Mem and 500 gig HD.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.

All my drivers are up to date.

Any useful & efficient advice?

Regards
John

Sound Card: 64-bit Win7 and Audition 3?

Audition doesn't like the sound subsystem that's part of my computer's motherboard. I'd really like to avoid Creative Labs if I can because the company's support (never good in the past) seems to have hit new lows. So today I spent more than 2 hours researching sound cards, their compatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows 7, and whether they work with Audition.

The results have been "inconclusive".

I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit) with 8GB of RAM on an Intel DP55WB motherboard. As I said, the built-in sound system is useless as far as Audition is concerned. I can edit in Audition, but recording is out of the question. Apparently there's no ASIO driver, but the problems appear to be deeper than that.

What I'm looking for is some suggestions for sound cards. My needs are relatively modest: I have an analog microphone that I need to use for recordings and that's about it. Front-panel connections would be great, but apparently only Creative Labs does this. If the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty is the best fit, I'll swallow my pride and buy one. But the reviews I've seen talk about Creative's non-support department, lousy internal connections, and lots of problems with the hardware.

Overall goal: Something that just works.

If you have a suggestion, I'd love to hear it!

Can't record anything with Audition 3.0

Hey everybody,

I've got a huge problem with Audition 3.0: I can't record anything. In the Multitrack Session, the 'R'-Button is always grey so I can't prepare for the record (or whatever it is called in english). Also, when I check the Audio-Hardware-Settings (hope you know what I mean), there is no available input.

The problem has to be the program, because I can record with Audacity.

I'm using my onboard soundcard and a Shure livemic, so nothing special. System ist Win7.

Thanks, hope somebody can help me!

P.S.: Google is giving me many threads where people have the same problem, but no solutions.

Hello everyone I have a serious problem. I just started using Adobe Audition 3 and everything is working fine except my microphone isn't recording my vocals. The music is playing and sounding good yet when I start to record and playback nothing is there. I tested my hardware and it's working fine, so why can't I hear my vocals. Can someone please help me? Thanks

where can I buy and download a legal copy of Audition 3.01?

I can't find it on this Adobe site. Everthing I search on this site, or get sent to from a google search, sends me to the new CS5.5 or whatever new software. I don't want all that, and too many functions have been discontinued. I just want audio, having used CooEdit Pro and other Audition versions with previous computers. I'm now returning to audio work. I can't find anything about buying v. 3 here. On google searches, I find plenty of places that claim to be selling 3, but I doubt the legitimacy of them. They're weird sites trying to shove other software at me. Amazon says v. 3 is no longer in stock. Can someone tell me where I can legimately buy and download 3--and get any updates? I have Vista 32 and meet the system requirements for 3. Thanks.

New Izotope Ozone 5 not working in AA 3.01??

Have any users tried out the new Izotope Ozone 5 in AA 3.01? Even though properly installed and with AA 3.01 pointing to the proper VST folder, and the.dll shave been selected before updating, the Oz 5 (demo) will not show up in the vst plugin list..Interestingly, it does show and work up in Sony Vegas 9.0.....My system is Windows 7 Intel Quad Core 3.4Ghz, 12 GB DDR RAM

Has anyone else tried it out? Have you gotten it to show up? Thanks.

Adobe Audition not saving Meta Data

I'm trying to save file information within an mp3 or wav file for our broadcast software (AudioVault) to read it and the information does not save.

We use versions 1.5 and Version 3 and they both exhibit the same behavior.

I have followed the info below but it doesn't work.

The File Info command opens a dialog box in which you can see and add metadata—descriptive information that a computer can process and search—about the open audio file. For example, metadata can include history, loop, and Broadcast Wave information.

For audio files in WAV, mp3, or CEL format, you can use the File > XMP Info command to add XMP metadata. This extensive metadata can be shared across databases, file formats, and platforms. (See Add or edit XMP metadata.)

 1. 1. In Edit View, choose File > File Info.
 2. 2. Click the tabs at the top of the dialog box to navigate between different sets of properties.
 3. 3. Set properties as desired, and click OK.

To preserve file information when you save files, select Save Extra Non‑Audio Information in the Save dialog box.

It is not saving the start and end date. Here's what I'm doing. Open mp3 file. File-File Info, toggle text field names to Radio Industry.

Fill out Description, Advertiser, start date, end date, click ok. click file, save as (clicking save extra audio infomation)

now close the file and reopen it and the start and end date are gone. Ideas?

FINAL EXPORT / MIXDOWN FONCTION does not work. The Output Wave Resulting is a total silence?

AUDITION FINAL EXPORT / MIXDOWN FONCTION does NOT ever work
The Output Wave Resulting is a TOTAL SILENCE - NO SOUND AT ALL
Bought & registered Program act as an expired DEMO...

The result is a wave with a completely flat HORIZONTAL LINE of pure $300.00 rip off of SILENCE

Even after many clean reinstallations AUDITION never is able to do a Final Mixdown with any Sound in it.

A AUDITION Support Technician cleaned up during 1 hour about 15 secret hidden Adobe files in the Windows XP System.
After this clean up the AUDITION program functionned ONCE! Once it was able to output a Final Mixdown with sound in it.
That never occured again after. I have a very standard very well maintained Windows XP computer.

My understanding & the experience with the Adobe Support Technician prooves that the problem is the deeply hidden spy files of Adobe who erroneously turn my bought & registered program into an expired DEMO. I have reported the problem numerous times to Adobe, & everytime I talk to support people at Adobe, they tell me they have never heard about this problem, when I already had reported it MANY times at the Adobe Tech Support department !!!
I can only draw the conclusion Adobe is trying to hide this problem away by pretending they have never heard about it.. ?

Anybody have had a similar AUDITION / DEPRESSION nightmare & found a solution ?

Quality degradation when digitizing mono cassette

$

I'm getting a strange effect when archiving a mono audio cassette.

If, in Audition, I either... a)record in mono or, b)record in stereo, then mix down to mono, the quality if worsewhen compared with recording and saving in stereo. There is a definite loss at the top end of the spectrum with a resultant loss in clarity.

I'm guessing that if I just record one track - or record both, pick the best, make BOTH the recorded tracks either left or right and THEN mix down to mono, all will be well. Haven't had time to try this yet but am just interested as to why this would be happening in the first place.

Any way to eliminate a melody instrument in a mono track by deleting its overtones?

I have a track of two melody instruments playing in unison (they're playing virtually the same notes at the same time). Is there a way to eliminate or at least lower the volume of one of those instruments by zeroing in on its overtones/partials/frequencies and deleting them or lowering their amplitude?

I've been attempting this for two days and thought it's high time I ask for help because the process is insanely slow so far. I've tried using filters and EQ but they seem to be too inaccurate. Another problem is that I'm working with Adobe Audition 3.0, so it doesn't have as great of a notch filter as CS6 or whatever the latest is. I've tried going into the spectral waveform view and manually deleting overtones but it's completely time consuming so far. I don't mind spending a couple days doing this to a track, but after two days I've only really gotten rid of the offending instrument on one note. Too slow.

Any advice or thoughts?

Thanks!

Hello forum members,

I am a college professor who is seeking to use Adobe Audition 3.0 free version with his students at a community college in Massachusetts.

My IT guys are not sure if it is legal to run the program on our computers.

Is there anything I can do to get permission from Adobe to use Audition 3.0 in my Digital Music Class.

Hello hive mind,

When I click on a file to edit it, initially that file appears in waveform edit view mode and then andter a second or two it flips to spectral frequency display.

It is easly enough to Shif+W to get it back to waveform display, but why does it do this? and more's to the point how do I stop it from flipping to spectral freq disp?

I would like the default view in edit mode to be waveform.

Can you help, please?

Serial Number Invalid on Reinstall

I haven't been able to open Au 3 for the past while. Every time I tried I would get the displayed error (have no idea what it;s referring to). I finally decided to uninstall and reinstall, but upon reinstalling, I have found that my serial number won't be accepted as valid anymore. This is the only machine I've used Au 3 on. Any suggestions? Keep in mind the error isn't the issue any more - it's that Au is saying my serial number is invalid.

Sound On Entire Computer Gets "Warbled"/Distorted Whenever I Open Audition

$

Hello. I apologize in advance if I'm posting a topic that's been posted before. I'm new to the forums, and couldn't find a similar topic via the search tool.

Anyway, whenever I open Adobe Audition, the sound on my entire laptop becomes "warbled" or distorted. The sound goes in and out, imagine your headphone jack or an audio cord not being plugged in all the way. But this ONLY happens with Audition. Other audio editing programs work just fine and don't affect the sound. But once I open Audition, the sound gets all wobbly and goes in and out.

I'm running the Audio Hardware as the following:

Device Class: MME

Default Input: Internal Microphone (Conexant SmartAudio HD)

Default Output: Speakers (Conexant SmartAudio HD)

The other preferences that come after don't change anything.

Also: Whenever I switch the Device Class to ASIO, my sound is perfect on my laptop, but then I get no audio from Adobe Audition. That puzzles me as well...

MME was working perfectly for me, however, until a few days ago. I updated my computer's soundcard due to some other sound issues I was having. I think this could possibly be what is messing with Audition....but I needed to update the soundcard.

So those are my issues. Any help or suggestions?

Unable to open MIDI input

Hopefully someone can help me out here.

Goal: I want to use the sequencer to control an external drum machine (Boss DR-660) in order to feed it back as audio into AA3. I'd also like to use the external drum machine to write the midi track in AA3's sequencer.

Problems:
1. I cannot enable the MIDI input port connected to my drum machine
Symptom: When I click to enable the port from the MIDI instruments panel, I get an error box that says "Unable to open MIDI input." Also when I try to configure the device in other windows, I get a "Error Opening MIDI Output (or Input)" box that says "The specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then try again." This also happens when I try to do "MIDI Trigger Enable."

It seems like there's some sort of lock on the port, but the only audio processes that are running are related to Adobe. I had it working before, but I'm not sure what parameter or setting I've changed in order to screw it up.

2. When it was working, I had the same issues as someone on the board with heavy latency between my pressing pads on the drum machine and sound coming to the audio. I'm using ASIO low-latency PCI-based audio interface, so I'm not sure how to fix this.

3. When it was working, I tried to record a MIDI track with the drum machine, but the beats and pads that I entered did not enter with respect to when I pressed them; instead they were entered based upon what was the next time step. So I ended up with a section of music all right next to each other with no rests at all.

4. With <None> selected as my VSTi, it still plays back in piano mode (sometimes). I'd like to be able to isolate the drum sounds inputted from the drum machine.

Background info:
- Drum machine is DR-660
- Interface is EMU-DSP 1820
- Interface driver (sw mixer is EMU PatchMix DSP)
- AA3 version 3.0 Build 7283.0
- Computer is Windows XP SP 3
- I've read through the majority of the FAQs on this board.
- I've googled the problems and haven't found answers online
- I've restarted the machine, the interface, the interface driver, and AA3 software in every feasible order
- I've looked through every imaginable Windows setting dealing with audio
- It worked before, and some setting has messed it up

This was kind of an expensive program for me, so I'd really like the MIDI to work as advertised. Right now, most of the tasks and settings still have unpredictable results. The audio portion is excellent though. I love being able to see mix levels for each track. :)

Thanks
Adam

Unable to get Audition 3 to recognize my midi controller

$

I'm trying to get to a point where I can use AA3's midi sequencer to record midi using Native Instruments' Battery 3 as a VST, and my Akai MPD24 as a controller, but so far have been unsuccessful. One thing I noticed today in searching through this forum and others was that people keep referring to a third button in the sequencer that looks like a bulleted text list in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen. The Audition documentation refers to this button also. (It looks like it should be just to the right of the jigsaw puzzle "VSTi Plugin Manager" button.) I don't have this button on my AA3. This leads me to believe that AA3's not recognizing my MPD24.

Does anyone know if there's something special you need to do to get AA3 to recognize a controller? I searched like crazy on this but can't for the life of me find anything. I installed the controller's software, and it works great with Battery when running Battery in standalone mode, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with the controller itself or its drivers. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
- Greg

Editing very large MP3 Files

$

Hello,

Sorry for my bad English! I am French!

I recently bought a Sony digital recorder (ICD-PX312) that records MP3 files.

I recorded my noisy neighbour, in continuous mode for three days. (I was not at home)

PX312 recorder has produced several files which maximum size is 511,845 kB corresponding to a lenght of 24H 15min.

Every file, checked with Mediainfo, have the same properties. (48kbps 44.1KHz)

I can read them with VLC media player without any problem, but I need to edit these files to keep only the interesting parts.

If I open (drag and drop or open file) these files with Audition 1.0 (I came from Cool-Edit), I found a very strange behavior.

The 24H 15min files are opened with a lenght of 1H and a half or so!.

I gave a try opening with Audition 3.0 and the result is strange too, and more "funny":

The lenght of one 24H15min file is 1H and a half

The lenght of another 24H 15min file is 21H or so.

In the Audition TMP directory, Audition has created several 4 GB temporay files that correspond to the limit of the WAV files.

I made a test with a 128kpbs, 44.1khz. This 511,845 kB file is 9H 5min long

Audition read it as 4H40min

The TMP file is 2,897,600 kB, far below the 4 GB limit

It seems Audition 1 and 3 (I read CS5 has the same problem too) does not share the WAV conversion very well.

Is it due to Audition itself or to the Fraunhofer MP3 codec?

Is there any workaround from Adobe?

As I am an AVS4YOU client, I tried AVS Audio Editor. It opens every file with the good lenght but does not have the needed editing functions. That demonstrates that it is possible to share very large files.

Many thanks in advance for any help or idea, because Audition is the editor I need!

Best Regards

Hi, all. Thanks for any help. Adobe had a breach, I had to reauthorize and then reinstall, and their support cannot solve this. I have repeatedly tried to download and reinstall, but I'm stopped by this file apparently missing.

Found out too late that Resource Central for Soundbooth and Audition CS are gone. Is there still a way to find and download it?

Hadn't been able to do any recording most of the year so it was only recently I found I couldn't access Resource Central anymore for foley effects. I did find where I could download some of the free music scores that used to be there on this site so I got those. The sound effects library was what I used most, however and I can't seem to find a download for any part of it anywhere. Does anyone know if there's somewhere around here I might be overlooking? Or perhaps someone could point me where I can find a similar library to purchase and download? Buy on CD maybe? I do not like this "Creative Cloud" thing at all. I have Soundbooth and I enjoyed having everything in one program, all paid for...in one payment. This new monthly subscription thing is really unfair. Now I would have to pay more money just to have access to that part again. Any info or advice will be much appreciated.
