Sound wave editing "order of operations" ?

$

Hello everyone,

I've been using Adobe Audition 3.0 for quite some time now and usually approach sound editing in a haphazardous sort of way without any sort of logical order.  However, after viewing Adobe Audition tutorial DVDs, and reading the program manual for this software I've come to realize that there is a logical "order of operations" in editing audio waves.

What I'd like to know is this.... is there a logical way to approach editing (ie starting by using normalization, then DC offset, then noise reduction, etc...) or is it more a personal preference sort of approach?

Please help.

Thanks,
Darren

Trouble installing Audion 3.0 after windows 8.1 upgrade

HI,

I had Audition 3.0 running on my Windows 8 laptop, but when I upgraded to 8.1 Audition wouldn't run.  It said "An error has been detected with a required application library.  The product cannot continue.  Please reinstall."

Uninstalling and reinstalling leads to the same message.  Sometimes when Iinstall I get another error message,

"The instruction at 0x103371f referenced memory at 0x102271f.  The memory could not be written.  Click OK to terminate."

Any ideas?

Thanks

CAN'T READ CD-AUDIO

Panic!

Via File->open cda files it just imports the actual cda file, not the audio itself. Via File->extract audio from cd it doesn't 'see' the tracks on the cd at all.
I tried reinstalling both the cd-rom players and Cooledit, even deleting it's folder in Regedit.
Win XP, soundcard Pulsar 2 (creamware)

Thanks for reading&replying!

MOTU UltraLite or 8Pre to record with Audition 3?

$

I am inexperienced with audio recording, but I'm doing more video work for musicians and I needed a better setup than the onboard mics on my camcorders, so I picked up an UltraLite recently. It's a nice little unit with a lot of features, but it offers only two mic inputs with preamps. I have two condenser mics that I can place in front of a small band in most cases, but I would like to use more mics and record multitracks with Audition 3. I am considering exchanging the UltraLite for an "8Pre" but it doesn't seem to have the Compression and EQ on board like the UltraLite does.

My question: Should I give up the onboard compression for the 8 preamps? Do I even need a compressor if I use Audition? Which would be more useful as a computer interface and as a standalone unit?

Adobe Audition Recording Voice Over Music

I need some help using adobe audition for a project. I have a trial version on adobe audition 3.0. I would like to know how to record my voice over music? I have to make a 2 minute infomercial for an artist and use various songs while talking about the band or artist. I need to have a continuous flow of music. I am confused on about every aspect. I have a microphone and when I record and try to playback, I cannot heard what I did. Where in the settings is the volume control for the microphone and volume? I would also like to have know what I need to do to lower the volume of music when I talk, I think this feature is known as enveloping. Also, when I put a CD with music in, what file do I have to go in to open it up and put it on the adobe screen. So basically, I would appreciate any help and a step by step process would be very helpful to me.

Thank You

Audition 3 won't recognise CD/DVD player to rip tracks

Although every thing works properly, Audition will not recognise the CD/DVD player using EXTRACT AUDIO FROM CD
The DVD player shows in drop down list of DEVICE INTERFACE OPTIONS (but not as a default) but when selected it cannot see tracks on the CD.
All Device Interface options are greyed out including ASPI/SPTI options
When using the Open file on a CD technique it brings in 10 samples only and the screen dims.????????

I know that this is a very unusual request. However, I have been searching and searching to try and find out how I would go about recreating this particular computer generated voice.

This is a voice from the 80's sci-fi movie called "The last StarFighter".

Here's a sample of the sound...

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Reinstall Audition 1.0?

Hard disk crash.  I am trying to reinstall Audition 1.0 to a WinXP Home on a Netbook.  I have a licensed copy of CE2K when I started that was followed up with an upgrade to Audition 1.0 when Adobe bought CE2K.  The problem is getting 1.0 installed.  I have tried installing CE2K but I am unable to input my CE2K serial number.  I got to install Audition 1.0 but despite having a valid serial number for Audition 1.0 the install fails because it cannot find an eligible upgrade product to finish the upgrade. Adobe help can not/will not Help stating Audition 1.0 is no longer supported.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get Audition 1.0 installed?

Audition 3.0: playback/cutting while holding mouse button

Hi ! For a few years I was working on Audition 2.0. My disc crashed and I had to reinstall, then I heard from Adobe hotline that I have to install 3.0 now, becouse activation servers are shut down for ver. 2.0

OK, I did so.

Only one thing don't let me to work as in 2.0 version: when I hold right mouse button (moving coursor to find desired fragment of voice - I only edit voices so precision is very important for me), I can't, like in 2.0, cut or play. I have to release moue button to do it. When you used to do such movements for several years, you work like a robot almost and such change can be really annoying.

So please help !

Is it something with my computer or maybe it's one of changes in 3.0 version (no possibility of cuting/playing while holding right mouse button) ?

I am trying to use Audition 1.5 with a MOTU 24I/O system. Audition sees the 2 24 channel MOTU units, but not the individual channels. Is Audition in multi-track mode compatible with this MOTU unit?

Crackling sound during playback

I've just started recording music with Audition and I'm having a bit of an issue that I'm hoping is fairly common. I've searched a bit, but haven't found what I was looking for. When I play back multiple tracks in the multitrack view it gives me crackling and sometimes cuts out completely. I get the same if I mixdown all the tracks.

Equipment:

====================

Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0

Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Fi

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.66Ghz

8GB Ram

Primary C: 544GB Free

Secondary F: 1.22TB Free

Adobe Audition 3.0

  • When I record using the Alesis mixer I have no issues.
  • When I play back each track individually in the Edit View area I have no issues
  • When I play back all tracks in the Multitrack view or try to mixdown the tracks I get crackling and sometimes the sound completely cuts out.
    • I get this through my on board Realtek sound card
    • I get this through my Creative Labs sound card
    • I get this through my speakers
    • I get this through headphones

I'm using the Creative ASIO driver, but I admit I'm new to recording via computer so maybe I'm missing something silly. My Audio Hardware Setup is shown below. I tried setting the ASIO Buffer Latency to 300ms to raise the sample rate, but that didn't help.

    Untitled-1.jpg

I tried raising the cache size thinking it didn't have enough.

    Untitled-2.jpg

I also raised the Peaks Cache.

    Untitled-3.jpg

I'm sure in my newbie-ness I'm missing something stupid and would really appreciate if anyone had any good advice on what I might do to troubleshoot this issue. It's making me nuts.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have any users tried out the new Izotope Ozone 5 in AA 3.01?  Even though properly installed and with AA 3.01 pointing to the proper VST folder, and the.dll shave been selected before updating, the Oz 5 (demo) will not show up in the vst plugin list..Interestingly, it does show and work up in Sony Vegas 9.0.....My system is Windows 7  Intel Quad Core 3.4Ghz, 12 GB DDR RAM

Has anyone else tried it out? Have you gotten it to show up?  Thanks.

recording midi using an external keyboard

Hi, im relatively new to this software and vsti plugins. I'm wondering if i can use an external keyboard to trigger off midi sounds using the vsti plugin on audition. the keyboard i'm using is quite a lousy and cheap keyboard (YAMAHA PortaSound PSS-50), but i'm using this to test out the vsti functions on audition before i buy a better keyboard.

After i plugged the keyboard into my computer using audio jacks, i went to the multitrack interface on audition. Then i clicked insert midi track. Then I clicked the red "L" button and then clicked sequencer. Under sequencer, at the top right hand corner i have no midi devices to select from and i have selected the 3 vsti plugins provided by adobe. What can i do to use the external keyboard to play sounds?

And is it possible to explain to me the concept of VSTi plugins and midi sounds? Any reply will be greatly appreciated!

Adobe Audition not saving Meta Data

I'm trying to save file information within an mp3 or wav file for our broadcast software (AudioVault) to read it and the information does not save.

We use versions 1.5 and Version 3 and they both exhibit the same behavior.

I have followed the info below but it doesn't work.

The File Info command opens a dialog box in which you can see and add metadata—descriptive information that a computer can process and search—about the open audio file. For example, metadata can include history, loop, and Broadcast Wave information.

For audio files in WAV, mp3, or CEL format, you can use the File > XMP Info command to add XMP metadata. This extensive metadata can be shared across databases, file formats, and platforms. (See Add or edit XMP metadata.)

    1. 1. In Edit View, choose File > File Info.
    2. 2. Click the tabs at the top of the dialog box to navigate between different sets of properties.
    3. 3. Set properties as desired, and click OK.

To preserve file information when you save files, select Save Extra Non‑Audio Information in the Save dialog box.

It is not saving the start and end date. Here's what I'm doing. Open mp3 file. File-File Info, toggle text field names to Radio Industry.

Fill out Description, Advertiser, start date, end date, click ok. click file, save as (clicking save extra audio infomation)

now close the file and reopen it and the start and end date are gone. Ideas?

Hi, I'm using Audition 1.5. In edit view I'm trying to hit play but a window comes up that says a device ID has been used that is out of range for your system. An error was generated by your sound card. It may not be properly configured - reinstall your sound card driver, check the sound card documentation and, if necessary, contact the sound card manufacturer to help you resolve this hardware error.

I already reinstalled the driver, any ideas?

    Audition 3.0

Where can I get support for Audition 3.0?

Audition 3.0 shuts down when launched; get error message "To continue working where you left off, please restart Audition".  I tried rebooting my computer, but Audition still does not launch.  Also, I can open a .wav file with Audition and it opens in edit mode. But I can't launch Audition from the icon and can't get into multitrack mode nor open a session file.  Running on Windows 7.

    Saving problem in Edit View

I've been using AA 2.0 and AA 3.01 for a long time. Today I loaded an mp3 file into Edit view, as usual. I deleted a few seconds off the end and went to save the file and I got this error message. "This wave format does not support the current sample type or is not functioning properly. Please try different file options, or a different file format."

I don't know what I did, but finally it saved. I tried it with other files and got the same error message. I have to change the name of the file in order for it to save. That shouldn't be. Why did this just start happening if nothing was set differently in AA3, and how can I get back to normal saving after a simple edit? Thank you in advance for any help.
